The text-based discount feature can be useful for gathering customer phone numbers to build your customer loyalty program database.

How to use:

Put a sign in your store instructing customers to text a keyword to a specific phone number in order to receive a coupon. (ThriftCart supplies these numbers, and if you need one, please email [email protected]).

When a customer texts the keyword to that number, ThriftCart texts them a coupon code. Upon presenting the code to a cashier, the cashier keys the code into a dedicated discount button on the register and can ask the customer for their name to add to their profile (their phone number is already saved).

To setup a texted discount and related keyword, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Relation satisfaction > Text message discounts
  2. Fill-in/review the fields:
    1. Keyword (This will be what your customer needs to text in to receive the coupon code).
    2. Message (This is the text your customer receives in reply. Leave the "[code]" intact; ThriftCart will replace this with the coupon code).
    3. Active (Select the checkbox to activate a text-based coupon).
    4. Weight (Leave it as is, unless you have more than one coupon with the same code. In that case, this determines the percentage of the time each coupon with the same code is texted).
    5. Coupon validity in minutes (This is how long the coupon is valid for redemption upon sending to the customer).
    6. Coupon name / Coupon ID (Choose an active discount from the drop-down menu. If you need help building discount, please check out this video and then email [email protected] with any additional questions).
    7. Daily limit (This is how many times a customer can receive the coupon to one phone number per day).
    8. Lifetime limit (This is how many times a customer can receive the coupon to one phone number all-time).
    9. Over-limit message (This is the message your customer should receive if they attempt to text the keyword and receive a coupon code more than the allowed number of times).

To redeem a texted coupon at the register, follow these steps:

  1. Select "Discounts" > "Select "Redeem One-Time-Use Coupon Code". (If you don’t have this button in your account, please email [email protected], and request it be added.)
  2. Enter the 9 digit code from the customer's text.
  3. If this customer's phone number is already in ThriftCart, the customer's profile should automatically be attached to the transaction.
  4. If the customer's phone number is not recognized, ThriftCart displays the message "Text Message Discount Customer" on the register where a customer's profile would be listed.
    1. The cashier can now select "Text Message Discount Customer" to update this to the customer's name along with entering their email and other contact information. (Note, the phone number is already captured!):
